American Experiences: American Nomads

Phoenix argues with a clerk in a bead supply store in Dupont Circle. She used the beads to create elaborate items that she planned to give to her daughter, Mountain, when she returned from the dead. Upon leaving the store, Phoenix described the clerk as a "vampire," someone who sucked positive energy from the environment. Phoenix sharply criticized the moral character those outside her family. In time, I came to believe that this dynamic was an attempt to alienate me from society and pursuade me to join the group.
