Captain Moro, age 83, stands for a portrait in the village of Munigi, on the outskirts of Goma. Moro entered the so-called "Public Forces" in 1955 under a forced conscription policy of the Belgian colonial authority. He claims to have fought in seven wars, including deployments to Morocco, Sudan and other foreign venues. He also claims to have been a personal bodyguard of former President Mobutu. He indicated that the medals he dons were issued for various military services he performed. Although Moro did not appear to possess a weapon and claims to no longer be paid by the military, he says he has yet to abandon his role as a solider.
