Solastalgia: Paradise California

Kathy and Doug Houston stand beneath a tree that they fought hard to save during the Camp Fire. The position of their home meant that fire fighters would not help contain the blaze in their area. As they fought spot fires throughout the day on Nov 8th, Kathy continued to return to the tree to douse it with water. "Our kids played in that tree," she said. "We're hoping that we have some grandkids soon and that they would be able to play in it, too." The trunk partially burned and a section collapsed, but they are hopefully that it will live on.
